Safety on the road, particularly in a city other than where you call home, is important Please review these important points before starting the car so your trip in Suriname will be a more enjoyable and memorable experience.
- Always take a view at the road map before leaving.
- Suriname has left hand traffic.

- Do not use your mobile phone while driving.
- The country has a very simple infrastructure, outside Paramaribo are not to many roads. The roads outside Paramaribo are sand or bauxite.
- Always mind potholes in the roads.
- Traffic signs are not everywhere. Always be careful if it is a one way street or not. Paramaribo city has a lot of one way streets.
- You are sharing the road with bikes and motorcycles.

- If someone signals you for help, do not stop.
- Avoid certain dangerous areas, get information in advance which are the areas.
- Do not store luggage or valuables in your vehicle, or at least keep them out of sight.
- If parking the car make sure all windows are closed and that doors are locked.
- Only tip parking guards if they belong to a company or restaurant, they will wear a uniform.
- If a car hits you, or you hit a car call police assistance (Alarm number is 115) immediately. Afterwards call Ross Rental Cars.
- Do not use alcohol or drugs while driving the vehicle.
- Paramaribo is not particularly dangerous and common sense is the best way to avoid trouble. Be careful after dark, as crime is on the rise and stick to busier streets .
